SUMMARY: A Transolutions Medical Language Specialist interprets and transcribes dictation by healthcare professionals to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transcribe medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care.
  • Recognize, interpret, and evaluate inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies in medical dictation and take appropriate action.
  • Meet quality and productivity standards.
  • Apply knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and English language rules to the transcription.
  • Use reference materials appropriately and efficiently.
  • Format reports according to established guidelines.
  • Understand medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records to protect the patient and business/institution.
  • Operate designated word processing and transcription equipment as directed to complete assignments.
  • Accept and incorporate critical feedback.
  • Follow policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of Transolutions, Inc.
  • Contribute to team efforts by working and communicating in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience or educational equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to connect equipment and utilize software efficiently.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical medicine, surgery, diagnostic testing, radiology, pathology, pharmacology, and the various medical specialties as required in areas of assignment.
  • Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation, and style.
  • Understand diverse accents and dialects and varying dictation styles.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and time constraints.
  • Ability to focus and concentrate.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Understand and apply relevant legal concepts (e.g., confidentiality).
  • Highly self-disciplined, able to work successfully and productively in home-based setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, employees are required to type on a computer keyboard 100% of the time, listening to dictation. They are also required sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to hear and comprehend medical dictation.
